Christians
have long used this passage as instruction and encouragement to discover
and use their own spiritual gifts, and various means of doing so have
been available to traditional Christian denominations. Everyone has
spiritual gifts; discovering and using them is one of the primary
means of furthering our spiritual growth.
Now,
Huffman Ministries has created this 46-page booklet, which interprets
spiritual gifts from a New Thought/Ancient Wisdom point of view. The
booklet is intended as the text for a spiritual gifts workshop, small
group study, or adult Sunday morning class in Unity churches, Unity
study groups, or other New Thought/Ancient Wisdom congregations. It
is also well suited to individual self study. It forms the basis for
an excellent workshop or class before a volunteer sign-up day, and
can be an important part of determining how people might best and
most happily serve your spiritual community. Feedback received from
students so far is that it is uplifting, enjoyable, affirming work.
The
booklet starts out with an introduction to spiritual gifts, including
their biblical basis. It then presents 29 separate potential spiritual
gifts a person may possess. Each gift is discussed in detail, including:

reference to an exemplifying Bible passage
- Characteristics
of people who have the gift
- Ways
the gift may be used
- Consideration
and cautions in using the gift
- A
suggested affirmation
The
booklet also provides a 6-page inventory instrument or "test,"
which students use to discover their own spiritual gifts and how they
might exercise them both within and outside the walls of the church.
To use the instrument, students answer 116 simple yes/no questions,
similar in concept to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality
inventory. Then they use a scoring sheet to tally the results, which
points out spiritual gifts they may possess. Note that there are no
right or wrong answers.
Each
student will require their own booklet, since the test and scoring
instructions are included in each copy. The material is copyrighted
