Is
it time for New Thought churches and centers to start looking outside
our own congregations to consider what we can do to make our world
better?
To
explore that question, Huffman Ministries has created a curriculum
to facilitate small group studies of social justice issues. This curriculum
safely opens important dialogue around what our focus could now be
in the world. Our consciousness is already raised and we affirmatively
pray for peace. Yet many suffer. What is our role in making the world
a safe, nurturing place for all who inhabit it? We have learned that
we are powerful co-creators with God, and that with the Christ, nothing
is impossible. We are filled with the twelve powers, spiritual gifts,
gifts of the spirit, and connection with Divine Mind. With all our
blessings in place, what is our role in uplifting those in our communities
who have fallen on hard times? What is our role in alleviating suffering,
and in maintaining a sustainable environment?
With
the realization that there are many, many worthy social justice issues
in our world today, six important issues were carefully chosen for
this work. They are:
- Social
Justice for Children
- Social
Justice for Women
- Feeding
the Hungry - What is the Christian's Role?
- Racism:
Do We Still Carry It Within Us?
- Homophobia
and Heterosexism
- A
Clean, Sustainable Environment
A
Student Workbook contains key ideas, scriptures, quotes, group activities,
spaces to journal, take notes, and develop personal and small group
ideas. A Teacher's Manual contains teaching notes, suggestions for
course management, suggested group activities, resource lists, teaching
aids, and handouts for the classes. The curriculum is appropriate
for home or church small groups, or for Sunday morning adult classes.
It is suitable for anyone attending a New Thought church or study
group.
Since students use their workbooks to do exercises and take notes,
each student will need their own copy. Because the material cannot
legally be reproduced, we have kept the price very low with the intention
that no student suffer financial hardship or be excluded from the
class.
